An Overview of Conference Leadership Committees
Pacific Northwest Conference – United Church of Christ

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

  • Develops policies, oversees programs, and manages the Conference finances.
  • Establishes priorities, long-range plans, and strategies for the Conference.
  • Meets: 1st Tuesday, 6:30-8:30 pm

Standing Committees

HUMAN RESOURCES COMMITTEE
  • Support and provide guidance to the conference minister in personnel matters.
  • Meets: Currently 3rd Thursday, 2:30-4:00 pm (may change)
COMMITTEE ON LOCAL CHURCH
  • Consult, assist, and provide funding in partnership with those involved in church formation or transformation.
    Works with existing UCC congregations, faith communities considering UCC affiliation, and new church starts.
COMMITTEE ON MINISTRY – East and West
  • Nurtures pastors and congregations.
  • Assists local congregations in times of call and crisis.
  • Authorizes people to practice ministry in the Conference.
  • Maintains covenantal relationships with members in discernment.
  • Addresses ethical issues raised by congregations and provides clergy ethics training.
  • Meets: COM-East: 2nd Monday, 10:00 am | COM-West: 2nd Thursday, 9:30 am-2:30 pm
FINANCE & STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE
  • Tells the story about why the Conference matters and communicates that message across the conference.
  • Helps organize the budget, investment, property management, and planned giving opportunities within the Conference.
  • Meets: 3rd Wednesday, 6:30-8:00 pm
NOMINATING COMMITTEE
  • Recruits and nominates candidates for leadership positions within PNCUCC
  • Meets: Approximately monthly, increasing near Annual Meeting. Most work happens outside meeting time.

Task Forces & Intentional Committees

ANNUAL MEETING PLANNING COMMITTEE
  • Plans the Annual Meeting, coordinating with the Board and local church leaders.
  • Meets: Varies. Dates and times may change after new committee members join following the Annual Meeting. All regular meetings are currently on Zoom.
OUTDOOR MINISTRIES
  • Partners with the congregations, children, youth, adults, and clergy of the conference for engagement with our camps in furtherance of our ongoing faith journeys.
  • Develops programs and recruits leadership to live out that call in response to the needs of the moment.
  • Collaborates with the Camp Managing Directors regarding the PNC conference-wide retreats, camps, and other faith formation events at N-Sid-Sen and Pilgrim Firs.
  • Plans, promotes, coordinates, implements, and evaluates a yearly calendar and curriculum.
  • Meets: Monthly, time varies. Work outside meetings varies.
GLOBAL MINISTRIES COMMITTEE
  • Nurtures and encourages global partnerships and sister church relationships.
  • Supports missionaries from PNCUCC and promotes mission trips.
  • Hosts visits by mission personnel and facilitates ongoing connections with UCC missionaries.
JUSTICE AND WITNESS MINISTRIES
  • Listen to local churches as they determine justice needs in their communities, offering consultation around barriers, strategies, resources, and partnership.
  • Facilitate access to resources and share power; prioritizing, listening to, and following those closest to injustice.
  • Meets: 2nd Monday, 6:00-7:30 pm
